#12 Crocheted placemats made out of old fabric

Have you ever wondered what to do with all these old T-shirts and bed sheets? When it comes to things we don’t need any more a very good choice would be to donate them to a non-profit organization provided of course that they’re in a good condition, but what about the rest of our stuff? Recycling and creativity are the key words! Take a look at these amazingly cute placemats I made out of old fabric using the crochet technique… 😉

WHAT YOU NEED:

A rag cut in stripes (about 1 cm wide)

A 12mm crochet hook

HOW TO:

Start by making a slip knot on your hook. Work 6 chain stitches and make a slip stitch through your first chain stitch in order to make a circle. Work 2 chain stitches and make 11 double crochet stitches by passing the hook through the center of the circle. Close your round of stitches by making a slip stitch through the first double crochet stitch. Work 2 chain stitches and turn your work around. Make 4 double crochet stitches through each stitch. Work 1 chain stitch and turn your work around. Make 1 single crochet stitch through each of your stitches. Finish with a slip stitch and you’re DONE!

Those of you who like this project and would like to try it out but lack crochet skills are welcome to leave a comment or contact me via e-mail, so that I make a short tutorial on the basics of crochet. 😉

It’s super easy! I learnt how to crochet in just one night (yep!) by watching tutorials online and it’s great to see how many things you can create!

Cheers,

Denise
